HOW TO SET UP PRODUCT TYPES

Background

When Corp transmits new products menu 12.3.2.2, field 29 in product master is populated with a code of 001 thru 014.  This is the only time Corp will do anything with field 29.

List of Product Types

Menu 12.3.25 will show a list of all product types in your system.

To Add New Product Types

Menu 12.3.4

Choose what the new product type will be.  You can use any characters, but the code must be 3 characters in length.

·        You may want to use the vendor number as a product type.

o       Example: For Source 1 products, use 615 as a product type.

·        You can also set up multiple product types within a vendor.

o       Example: Aprilaire has many products.  Set up different product types for different groups within Aprilaire.

o       For Aprilaire humidifiers and filters use 508

o       For Aprilaire pads and media use 50A

o       For Aprilaire parts use APR

Ø       Remember these are only examples.  Use whatever you are comfortable with.

Once you have chosen the new product type:

1.      Input new code at the product type prompt

o       If it is new, you get the following:

            NOT ON FILE. IS THIS A NEW ITEM (Y/CR)?

o       Input Y <cr>

2.      Input the description you want in field 1

o       Note: Do not fill in fields 2, 3, and 4

After entering the new product type, go to menu 12.3.2.2, field 29.  Input the new product type for each product you want to be coded with that product type.
